Meet The Team: Marco
Marco | BI Consultant
Please introduce yourself briefly: Who are you and how did you come to iSYS?
I was born in Augsburg and studied information-orientated business administration there, as I’ve always been a numbers person. At that time, I had planned to start my career in finance or banking, but a job fair led me into controlling. During my three years in Controlling at a holding company, the thing I enjoyed most was automating the processes, some of which were still very manual. Analyses and reports in particular were mostly created ad hoc, which is why the decision was made to introduce a BI tool. I was so enthusiastic about the whole project, from the POC to the finished dashboards, that I wanted to continue working in this area.
What are your tasks at iSYS?
I work in the Business Intelligence team as a BI consultant. I am currently supporting an external customer project. A large retail chain wants to implement its reports in the areas of finance and HR in Qlik Sense. First of all, a current inventory of the existing implementation had to be made, on the basis of which a roadmap for the project was then drawn up. With the help of the specialist departments, the data for P&L or contribution margin accounting, for example, was then prepared and the structure of the reports defined. The be-all and end-all for the end user is of course a user-friendly interface, which is currently being tested for usability by the users. The next step is to introduce a comprehensive company-wide authorisation concept at department and cost centre level. I am also involved in a number of internal projects, such as the development of a dashboard for project profitability.
What excites you most about your job?
What I find most exciting about working as a BI consultant is actually the diversity. On the one hand, you have to have a certain basic understanding of business management in order to understand the customer’s requirements and implement a suitable BI solution. On the other hand, technical expertise in the field of IT is also required, for example with regard to IT infrastructure, data pipelines or SQL. Last but not least, frequent communication with the customer is of course a key factor in the success of the project. This also creates a certain amount of variety: if you get stuck with something, you can always get help from your helpful iSYS colleagues.
What can new team members expect when they join iSYS?
I felt at home at iSYS right from the start. That started with the introductory meeting on site, where all colleagues offered their help if I had any questions. Overall, the collegial atmosphere at iSYS is excellent, both among colleagues and with managers. They treat you as equals and always have an open ear for concerns of any kind. iSYS has a wide range of different customers, so there are always new and exciting projects on the horizon. If you need a break from work, you can meet up for a coffee in the lounge and chat with colleagues from other departments. It’s also possible to work remotely from home, which of course saves me a lot of time and money as an Augsburg commuter.
What do you do in your free time?
I am at home outdoors. In summer, I spend a lot of time in the mountains, hiking or biking. In winter, I make sure I get to the piste as often as possible for snowboarding or skiing. Next year, I have planned a project to convert my VW Caddy into a mini campervan so that I can go on weekend trips as easily as possible. I also love travelling 🙂
