Flavia | 23 | software developer

Please introduce yourself briefly: Who are you and how did you come to iSYS?

My name is Flavia, I was born in Munich and have been with iSYS since March 2021. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Media Informatics this May and will be starting my Master’s degree in Management and Digital Technologies at LMU in October.

After graduating from high school, I initially started studying sociology, but dropped out after a month because I realised that studying humanities wasn’t for me. Instead, I started working in an education technology start-up as a content marketing manager and project assistant and quickly became interested in the software projects they were working on. I then decided to study media informatics at LMU because of the higher proportion of women and the link to human-machine interaction.

I came to iSYS through the best friend of my flatmate’s brother at the time. He had worked at iSYS for a while and told me nothing but good things about the team and the working atmosphere and then put me in touch with the head of HR. In the middle of the lockdown, I had my job interview in December 2020 and finally started my job as a working student in March 2021. At that time, it was also still lockdown and I was very happy to be one of the few people who could come into the office almost every day, along with another new working student. Since September 2022, I have been working part-time 16 hours a week.

What are your tasks at iSYS?

I am currently working on a customer project at GEMA, where I am supporting the team with front-end development. In the past, however, I have already had various tasks, e.g. I have also worked on the further development of a webshop in the backend or designed an approach for sustainable UI/UX improvement with the help of UI tracking tools.

What excites you most about your job?

What excites me the most is the problem solving that you are confronted with every day. It’s part of a developer’s everyday life that the code doesn’t work the way you imagined at the beginning and then you have to find out why and how to make it work. Sometimes you have to have a high tolerance for frustration, but when it finally works, it’s all the better. As a developer, you never stop learning, as technologies are constantly changing. I also find it particularly exciting when a new customer requirement comes along and you start to create concepts for a new technical solution.

What can new team members expect when they join iSYS?

A very familiar and pleasant working atmosphere. Everyone here is on a first-name basis and there is little evidence of hierarchies in everyday life. You can also look forward to various projects with long-standing customers and lots of team activities. New software developers first go to the iSYS Academy, where improvements are made to various internal applications in an agile environment with each sprint. This offers a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with the technologies used within the company and makes it easier to settle into the company.

What do you do in your free time?

In my free time, I love to cook or go out with friends. I also like to spend my time doing sports such as Pilates or yoga and taking long walks or trips into the Munich area to get some exercise. But when I need some peace and quiet, I also like to sit in front of the TV and watch a series or play games on the Nintendo Switch.
