In this project, a key company process for allocating funds was modernised, making it more robust and secure. The previous procedure comprised many partial solutions with Excel, which involved manual input and media disruptions that were to be replaced by the BI software QlikView.

The challenge
The task was to bring the process for calculating the funds to be distributed, which had previously been distributed across different Excel spreadsheets, into a centrally administered application. QlikView was used for this application.
The existing Excel files, together with other technical documents, serve as a development and format template for the application and are modelled and expanded in QlikView.
The basic data originates from various systems, which are currently exported manually or semi-automatically from these systems, and is to be read, cleansed and modelled directly by QlikView in the future.
As a result, the application should calculate the station coefficients for all television stations/radio stations contained in the basic data and make them available to the successor system RECH.
This project posed particular challenges due to the heterogeneity of the data from the upstream systems, which first had to be automatically transferred to a common data pool.
In addition, many processes, rules and special features were not directly visible in the Excel templates, but were distributed across the customer’s specialised departments involved.
Furthermore, QlikView had to provide the option of directly entering information that was required within the process. This is not actually provided for in the regular functional scope of QlikView, as QlikView as a BI tool is normally only based on the ETL process and the visualisation of the data.
