Apprenticeship at iSYS – an experience report

How does it feel to start a professional career in the IT sector? Amelie has been training as an IT specialist for system integration since the middle of last year and tells us about her practical experiences and tasks so far. She gives us personal insights into what an apprenticeship at iSYS might look like in practice.

Please introduce yourself briefly: Who are you and how did you decide to do your apprenticeship at iSYS?

I’m Amelie, 21 years old and I come from beautiful Lake Tegernsee. I originally trained as a presenter and editor, but the pandemic has changed a lot in my life and I’ve reorganised my career.
As the IT industry is not only a future-oriented but also a very diverse and exciting professional field full of opportunities, I decided to train as an IT specialist for system integration.
Above all, iSYS’s awards as a top employer from Focus Business and Kununu aroused my curiosity.
After my first interview, it was clear to me that I was in exactly the right place.

What are your tasks at iSYS?

My tasks mainly consist of learning and applying what I have learnt. I’m currently working a lot with network technology and the Python programming language. In addition, there are everyday tasks such as helping employees with problems, fixing technical errors and working on specific topics/projects with my team.

What excites you most about your apprenticeship?

There is hardly anything that doesn’t excite me! I find programming very exciting, for example, as it allows me to utilise my creativity. But networks are also an extensive, interesting subject where you never stop learning.
One exception is perhaps printer problems, where my enthusiasm is rather limited.

What can new trainees expect when they start at iSYS?

Above all, new trainees can expect cool projects, a lot of freedom to organise their own learning material, a flat hierarchy and great team colleagues from whom they can learn a lot. If you are curious and committed, you can realise your full potential here. There is no such thing as boredom here.

And finally: What do you do in your free time?

In addition to my training, I volunteer with the volunteer fire brigade and the international disaster relief organisation @fire. I’m mainly involved in fighting forest fires and rescuing rubble. Otherwise you can find me in the dance studio, swimming in the Eisbach (even in winter), archery or immersed in a book or computer game.
