Meet The Team: Uli
Uli | Full Stack Developer
Please introduce yourself briefly: Who are you and how did you come to iSYS?
I was born in Munich, but started my professional career in Saarland. In 1999, I moved to Frankfurt am Main to join DENIC eG as a software developer. I stayed there for almost 20 years, but in 2018 I wanted to return to Munich for personal reasons. I then applied to various companies and iSYS was my favourite of all the options. On the one hand, because I wanted to work in a project-orientated environment with different customers, and on the other hand because it was a good fit both in terms of people and the values it communicated.
What are your tasks at iSYS?
I work in the “Technology Lab / R&D” business unit. Accordingly, I deal a lot with innovations and the necessary architecture concepts. Specifically, this means that I work on research projects that cover areas such as IoT, machine learning/AI, distributed computing, geocoding and visualisation. At the same time, I also support smaller customers who want to bring projects in these areas to market maturity. Finally, I have also recently started mentoring new employees and endeavour to impart knowledge both within and outside the company.
What excites you most about your job?
I really like the versatility, I can still learn a lot here. I also find it remarkable that the values of the company are really lived by all the colleagues I have had the pleasure of working with so far. You could say that iSYS presented itself in the application process exactly as it is in the end. I feel I am in the right place here.
What can new team members expect when they join iSYS?
It certainly depends on their previous knowledge – when a supposedly old hand like me joins the company, they are of course thrown in at the deep end and you can expect them to swim. I think that’s fine if you can always talk to someone if you need to, which was and is definitely the case for me.
Of course, it’s a completely different story for career starters. We have an unusual organisation here in the form of the Academy, which has already been reported on a lot elsewhere.
In any case, everyone can rely on finding an appreciative environment.
What do you do in your free time?
Together with my wife, I run a small pharmacy museum – the Apothekarium. I also enjoy travelling in the mountains and playing golf and table tennis.
