Meet The Team: Kimia
Kimia | Working student in the field of artificial intelligence
Please introduce yourself briefly: Who are you and how did you come to iSYS?
Hello, my name is Kimia. I was born and raised in Iran and in 2019 I decided to take a new direction in my academic career and move to Germany. I spent a year at a preparatory college for international students in a small, charming town in northern Germany called Greifswald. I then began my studies in Bioinformatics at the Technical University of Munich and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
While searching for job vacancies on the Internet, I came across iSYS and was immediately enthusiastic about the opportunity to work on exciting and varied projects in a collegial environment. I applied with great enthusiasm and was delighted to be invited for an interview. After a nice chat with Lars about my background, it was clear that I would fit in very well with the AI team. Another conversation with Martin, the head of the AI team, was the start of my journey at iSYS.
What are your tasks at iSYS?
I am currently working on the implementation of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) by tuning large language models (LLMs) to the specific needs of iSYS. In doing so, I provide the models with additional contextually relevant data to ensure that they deliver the most relevant and accurate results for our projects.
What excites you most about your job?
What I love most about my job is that I have the opportunity to analyse complex problems and break them down step by step into smaller, solvable parts. I am constantly learning new things. I particularly like the fact that I work with the latest methods and tools and can design and programme prototypes independently. I also really enjoy working in a team that values further training as much as I do.
What can new team members expect when they join iSYS?
The working atmosphere at iSYS is excellent. You are warmly welcomed right from the start and feel relaxed and in good hands despite the job change. All colleagues are very friendly and helpful, and I received support in every situation. Onboarding was very pleasant and I felt at home here from day one. The weekly meetings with my mentor helped me to settle into the team and the company very quickly. The Academy team is also extremely friendly and we attach great importance to supporting each other.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy a variety of activities. I spend a lot of time in nature – luckily Munich is perfect for this. I also love going to bars and clubs and have a lot of fun partying. When I need some ‘me-time’, I devote myself to my instrument, the santoor, or read books.
